Jonathan Brooks began the service with an explanation of our commissioning of Crossway Church of Goldsboro service and read from Psalm 43.  In light of the psalmist’s praise of our great God and Redeemer we sang “And Can It Be“, “The Saving One” by Starfield, and “Psalm 62“.  All great songs centering on the Savior the “King has crushed the curse of death and I am His forever”!  John Randolph, elder and pastor of preaching and teaching for Crossway, opened the text of Scripture and exposited 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10 focusing on verse 10:

“and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.”
(1 Thessalonians 1:10 ESV)

John asked us “What are we waiting for?”  Are we waiting for a TV show, a bowl game, or are we waiting, like all of Scripture and history, for Christ to return to bring His kingdom and the wrath to come?  He moved us directly to the Lord’s Table as we prepared for communion and we saw in 1 Corinthians that Paul says we “proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes” as we celebrate communion.  We sang Matt Redman’s two songs focusing on the death of Christ “Remembrance (Communion Song)” and “Nothing But The Blood” and took the bread and the cup together one last time with the members of Crossway.  We sang “Jesus Paid It All” so thankful that our debt has been paid and the wrath has been taken away through the cross of Christ.  Justin Childers officially commissioned Crossway Church of Goldsboro as all the members of Christ Baptist gathered around the core group and laid our hands on them, next Sunday is their first official Sunday.
